Nostalgic Folk Art was born in 2004. I came up with Nostalgic Folk Art name for my paper mache figures because I love the older things that remind me of my childhood and of innocent times. They are figures of folks both childish and impish and I love vintage folk art so putting nostalgic with folk art was/is a perfect and fitting name for my lil figures and business. I feel so blessed and thankful to God for being able to make these little pieces and hope they make you smile.

Thank you for taking the time to visit!

And when your done visiting here, I'd love for you to check out my work on my etsy shop, www.etsy.com/shop/NostalgicFolkArt

The Best to you always!

Seerer of all this is an Ode to Moms Santos.

I Just Finished this Book and boy did i need that!

My friend Tee had stopped by this afternoon after a 2 week stay at Penland in NC and brought me a book that made me laugh out loud and realize we all make mistakes and not to take things so seriously.

OK the book is called REGRETSY  now how about coincidences!!!!!!
the book is by April Winchell and it is a hoot!!  the tag line is Where DIY meets WTF   and I can honestly say I read the entire book in about 2 hrs.  Highly recommend it.

Here are some of the gems from the book and taken from her etsy site.  but the commentary is the hilarity!

these are siamese embryos in charm form,  so many original ideas on this site I mean one of a kind!

a cheese grater clock, the description included most of the cheese has been removed

a hummingbird helmet feeder, now do you just stand there and wait for 2 birds or do you ride your bike and just hope

these are from the site,  a sex burger print , hmmn the kitchen dining room or bedroom?????

a word to the wise inscribed bracelet   "Don't Get Butthurt"   I hear ya sister!

A lanturn light hat with butterflies,  great for a bad hair day or for going incognito.

a um well I think i'll quote a spot in her book for this poor lil  pug
"the poor thing is sticking her tongue out at you, thats all she can do. There's a 3 day waiting period for a gun"  hee hee something like that

I think this is cross stitchery (pardon the pun)

Look i'm not a mean person and i'm not a saint, art is subjective and i can tell you i have had my feelings crushed by comments others have made about my work BUT i do have a sense of humor and if its funny have at it.  If something can make me laugh giggle or just fall out it is a Masterpiece!!!!

I've decided to visit more blogs and come out of my shell

I do follow some blogs, and have a few blogs that follow me. I dont want to follow 37 blogs as it would take up too much time, however i am going to visit them more often and if they have posted more recently i'm going to make an effort to comment. Also i went and visited blogs that my blogger "friends" followed. There were so many so i chose those with names that appealed to me. So i spent an hour this afternoon and saw many wonderful and beautiful pieces of art and great stories.  I found out someone had serious surgery, another just did a show, one going to show, yummy recipes, gardening tips and some starting on new work oh a lil Boston named Stella Rose and her property problems. It kinda made me sad that some blogs had just kinda died, i wondered if there was something good or terrible that is taking their time. Maybe some just arent blogging, anymore with facebook and twitter and insta gram and pinterest and etsy and ebay and websites. ugh too many options i suppose. I still dont get twitter, but i didnt get facebook for the longest either.
Thank you all for sharing your ideas and pictures with us all.

My New Passion, Nostalgic Folk Art Scraps Magnets

Hmmn I feel terrible about this but i did clean up my blog a bit. I went thru my blogs and those that hadnt published in a bit i deleted, tho i kept some i just couldnt delete, also I want to get more involved with those i follow in visiting and commenting. so i dont know how this ties in but.

ANYway From scraps and overstocks I decided to make these refrigerator magnets. they are made from older wood scraps, buttons, cabachons and whatnots. THey are very ImpErfeCt and primitive folk art  farmhouse goodness. I'm going to put them on my etsy site and sell them i think but they look so good on my old tin Pepsi sign. AND on my fridge.

this is an old picture of my first boston Butch, with his girlfriend Sassy, he was an amazing dog.

Old and New Side Show Nostalgic Folk Art

The circus theme is a really popular one for inspiration but the old carnivales , the early mom and pop family owned  and country fairgrounds are what really get me inspired. here are some pics of a piece i did in 2011 it was sitting in a window in Mt. Dora(of an empty bldg) as a promotion for the arts and shops in the area, heck Bowersock Gallery still has a pic of it on their site, they really need to update.
I got this back and it sits in my studio but i think i'll add this one to my etsy shop for sale, not sure tho its big and funky and kinda neat in my studio but....
anyway here are some pictures and you can see my new cute and slightly weird piece.

So these are my Amazonian Women Wonders, really cheesy, strong lady, bearded lady and live mermaid

The stand curves like a theater but is so big hard to take pictures, and you know i take terrible ones.

ok so here is the new 2013 version  of World Famous Flying Babies!

More pics on my facebook and of course i'll be adding this piece to etsy along with a raggedy and upset lil kitten

Indie Art in Deland

Yesterday Dan and I went with Emily of Catfish Studio and her other half, David, to Deland Florida for the first Indie Art Showing.

 Emily and David

I couldnt wait to get there, as it was lunch time and i had heard there would be some food trucks. I have been dying to try those like the ones on food network. Well we did a quick walk thru and there were some really interesting items there. some antiques and upcycled things along with original funky things.

it ended up pouring rain and we got soaked, but most of the set ups were indoors. VERY Good for a first showing and we'll definitely be back. We even met a precious Boston and caught him at the food truck we ate from. It was delicious!!!!

an interesting day for sure.

I've some really interesting items

and have put them on my Etsy shop, www.etsy.com/shop/MyCrowdedLittleNest, i've been looking out for the gals who sew beautiful prim dolls and mohair animals, what i mean is i've been looking for items that would give those pieces antique feeling. Like these trims, notions and needfuls.

This is one of my favorite items in my shop, its vintage patterns for 3 cat head pot holders! Oh how i wish i could sew!!!!!! i'd make these all day in all different colors.

how wonderful would this beautiful silk thread edwardian styled trim look on a primitive or historical inspired doll

or how about these vintage game letters, the possibilities,

I use these all the time but i have extra and i like to change it up so i'm selling these and the light pink and white ones are velvet

I guess these would be great for bear makers????

and finally vintage pin keeps are just fun to collect, the strawberry and orangey tomato are velvet.
lots and lots of other items as well so keep that in mind if your looking for old buttons, lace trims, notions,
or a gift for someone who loves vintage and retro items.

My First Written Review/Kinda like your first dollar, I treasure this dearly

"Carol Roll is a relative new-comer, creating folk art for four years, now. Her paper mache figures reflect significant talent. At first glance, her angels, people, mermaids, and animals may appear cute and dear. At closer look, they are sophisticated, with detailed, expressive faces, each unique. Roll's work is anything but mass produced. It's the real deal. "
