Nostalgic Folk Art was born in 2004. I came up with Nostalgic Folk Art name for my paper mache figures because I love the older things that remind me of my childhood and of innocent times. They are figures of folks both childish and impish and I love vintage folk art so putting nostalgic with folk art was/is a perfect and fitting name for my lil figures and business. I feel so blessed and thankful to God for being able to make these little pieces and hope they make you smile.

Thank you for taking the time to visit!

Beautiful Folk Art Pieces

This gal is so danged talented! The folk art dolls she creates are amazing, they show her devotion to details and of course her talent. Her name is Patty Trevino and her business name is Dogpatch Primitives, you can click on it on my favorite blog sites (Tails from the Dogpatch) and see more of her wonderful original work.
This is an example of the great work offerred on the To Dwell In Primitive Thymes Mercantile. It is Halloween in August and there will be so many wonderful items to shop for!

Another talented artist from the group is Pam of GoldiLoo Woodworks, check out her website if you get a moment. Her signs are the best! She really knows how to stain and stress them to make her signs look like pieces from the past. Her work is in Country Sampler this month. You can see it as part of the home decor of a featured home. Here is a another teaser of the type of work offerred on The Merc this August!

Also check out the halloween pieces on E-Bay from To Dwell In Primitive Thymes gals this Sunday!

To Dwell In Primitive Thymes

Just wanted to let you know of the theme for To Dwell In Primitive Thymes Mercantile for the month of August. As you can see by the banner its a Halloween theme which is always fun!

To Dwell In Primitive Thymes is a group of juried primitive artists that make some of the most beautifully hand crafted work. There are artists in this wonderful group of which I am very blessed to be a part of, that work in many mediums including a new member, Teresa Thompson, aka Hot Metal Mama, who makes metal sculptures.

The blog site for TDIPT is on my favorites, click on it and you can get updates and info on the artists there plus get on to the selling site to see who has what goodie for sale.

Also to see what is offered on ebay by these gals and myself, just type TDIPT in the search.
Ok back to work for me, everyone have the best day possible!!

The following day after the hike I needed to just stay at the cabin and hang out with Henry. Dan and Kipp went golfing and I made what is now called vacation lasagna. Its where your not in your own home with your own spices and pots and pans or your regular grocery store (not knowing where everything is so forgetting things and too tired to go back)and you just throw stuff in a pot and let it cook all day long. Actually its pretty darn good and now it is to be a Roll tradition. It was hamburger, can of tomatoes, tomato sauce, onion, regular seasoning, and whatever cheese we had in the fridge. I didn't even bother to skim the grease and it kept the lasagna noodles from sticking to the pot. I was really tired from that hike! But it turned out good in a salty heavy satisfying comfort food way.

The last day we went to Cade's Cove and had a delicious picnic. We saw a bear there and that was really exciting and of course some deer. We went to Roaring Forks and then out to dinner. Exhausted and sad to say good bye to this wonderful area but we saw some beautiful sites, had lots of laughs, relaxed, and met some great people. Can't wait to go back!!

We went fishing the next day and although we didn't catch anything it was a blast!!!The day was beautiful and I couldn't have spent a better day with my boys!

The following day we went to Allum Cave and hiked for 4 miles. It was so tough but so much fun and going down the mountain (to the FL girl) was so much easier. We found wild blue berries and had our lunch at the very top and enjoyed the view.

We stopped of at The Main Street Gallery in Clayton Ga, to drop off some of my work and see the wonderful art that is there. They allow dogs in the gallery so Henry got to visit too.

Once we got to Gatlinburg we spent the day setting up the cabin and going antiquing and stopped off at a great primitive shop called Rebecca's Thyme which has work in it by TDIPT's Starla of Briar Rabbit Primitives. My family was blessed to meet her and her husband Tony. They came up to the cabin to eat dinner and visit. Tony had some great stories (Popcorn Sutton)and they just are the nicest people. It was a privilage to meet them!!!! Oh and she brought me a precious bear she made that comemerates The Smokies 75th anniversary. I love it!!!! Oh and a bracelet from Bracelets for Bullies, which helps Pit Bulls. They didn't forget Henry either(see pic). I appologize for the blurry pic of Starla and I but it was the best one we had.

We made it to Ga and here is the wonderful view of Talluaha Point. And here is a picture of my boy and me so happy to be on the road to Gatlinburg!!!

I Want to move to TN!

Here we are in heading out for our summer vacation and of course Henry (my Boston Terrier) took a moment to try his hand at the helm. Kipp is asleep in the back of the car as it is only around 10am and to a 21 year old "man" it might as well be 5am. I know he would be thrilled to know I posted this wonderful picture!

A Huge Thank You To Jan!

Well I finally did it and started a blog. I feel like I'm part of the 21st century now. I should appologize in advance for all misspellings oh and misplacement of pictures as I still havent figured that bit of technology out yet. And if I had figured that out, I would of posted a superwoman picture and put a head shot of Jan of Big Brown Dog Graphics on her body. She really helped me with my site and did all the graphics without one glitch. Not a one. Pretty amazing and she also went above and beyond in helping me get set up so my very first blog is a HUGE THANK YOU JAN!

My First Written Review/Kinda like your first dollar, I treasure this dearly

"Carol Roll is a relative new-comer, creating folk art for four years, now. Her paper mache figures reflect significant talent. At first glance, her angels, people, mermaids, and animals may appear cute and dear. At closer look, they are sophisticated, with detailed, expressive faces, each unique. Roll's work is anything but mass produced. It's the real deal. "
