This year i did not apply for the Mount Dora Art Show (this weekend) because on Fourth Street, right in the heart of the show, Bowersock Gallery will be open and they have my work there. It really is convient for me and Dan and although we will miss seeing some of our wonderful customers and meeting new ones (ideally) I just wanted to see how this goes as it is alot of work to travel and set up. These old bones get tired easier these days.

So if your interested in seeing my work this year at the show, stop by Bowersock Gallery on 137 E Fourth Street. The will have a tent in front of their gallery featuring Christopher Poither who is an amazing painter.

MOUNT DORA — How artsy is Mount Dora? The city's reputation as a top-notch art destination seems to ebb and flow.
But two experienced art gallery owners chose the city as their second location after looking at cities and towns all along the East Coast.
Steve Bowersock and Michael Senger will stage a grand opening of the Bowersock Gallery from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
They also own the Bowersock Gallery in the seriously artsy community of Provincetown, Mass., at the tip of Cape Cod.
"Something about this area just called to us," Bowersock said.
They are not leaving their success to chance.
They have met with and made plans with other art-oriented businesses. One of the 30 artists they represent will have a booth in front of their gallery in next month's Mount Dora Arts Festival.
And next week they will host "Townie Night," when they invite people who work downtown and business owners to stop in and take a look, a strategy that worked for them in Provincetown. That event is set for 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
"We did it the first few years after we opened our doors," Bowersock said. "So if someone asks them what to do in Mount Dora, they might think of us."
The gallery contains art in the widest possible spectrum — from painters in every medium to textile artists and woodworkers.
They have put their toe in the local pool as well. The gallery will represent Carol Roll of Ormond Beach, whose papier-mâché figures are favorites in the arts festival.
Featured in the opening reception is Meghan Howland of New Hampshire, whose dreamlike oils include female figures dressed in clothes with lace collars and puffed sleeves.
In her "Bird Attack" series, flocks of yellow, black or brightly colored birds strafe young women deep in thought.
In "The Sisters," two girls in dresses with bow-tied sashes kneel and bend over to peer through heavy curtains — at what?
It is this ambiguity that attracts Bowersock.
"She is not safe, but she is interesting," he said.

Grand Opening Friday the 6th

There are a number of reasons the Bowersock Gallery owners opened their second fine art business in Mount Dora; location, location and appreciation.

Co owners Steve Bowersock and Michael Senger used the same criteria for the second gallery as their first in Provincetown, Massachusetts. The new area needed to have a demonstrated appreciation for fine art, one with longevity, and a name that drew those with a real interest.

“We started driving down the east coast from New England stopping at a number of cities that we’d researched. We were fairly sure it would be one of the two towns in Georgia we’d heard so much about,” says Senger. “But once we saw Mount Dora everything changed. It was just what we were looking for.”

The location and actual building were impressive. Even during the investigative stage the community showed them what “southern hospitality” was all about. But final clincher was the Lakes Region’s historical interest and respect for art.

“We felt welcome from the start,” says Bowersock. “It was also clear that this community had appreciation for fine art, not just historically, but currently and likely for the foreseeable future. That’s what attracted us to Provincetown, Mass. and now to the Lakes Region of Florida.”

A personal bonus was Senger’s family lived close by in Tavares.

The Bowersock Gallery had a soft opening in September. The Grand Opening and Art Exhibtion is January 6, 6 to 8 p.m., and will feature “Recounting Narratives,” a show featuring Meghan Howland, with small works by Cindy Rizza, “New England’s brightest rising stars.” Howland will attend the event.

The Grand Opening will feature a Ribbon Cutting at Bowersock and three neighboring businesses, “sort of a block party,” and unveil the block’s Mount Dora version of the “Painted Ladies;” colorful building exteriors.

The Gallery represents nearly 30, mature and emerging renowned Northeast artist, painters and sculptors, from a broad span of genres. Most are located in the art-rich New Hampshire/Maine seacoast area, where Bowersock studied for sometime. During those years Bowersock cultivated relationships within the art community.

“The incredible quality and individual styles made the area ‘easy pickin’s for a top-quality gallery. So when we launched our first, we decided to focus on this historical art hub,” says Bowersock. “Many of our artists have earned recognition and awards, or been the subject of regional and national level publications for their accomplishment. The larger percent of them have taught or still teach.”

Senger and Bowersock look for artists with a mastery of medium, but also, importantly, an “individual eye,” something larger than the immediate image that will continue to intrigue the viewer.

Senger starts listing the stable artist’s accomplishments: Lisa Grey is a national authority in the textile/paint arts and Stan Moeller is a multi award-winning painter, with national attention. Florida’s own Carol Roll was featured in a national publication. Sculptor Christopher Gowell has been awarded a number of major public installation projects; Dustan Knight is credited with discovering the large, “juicy” watercolor style. Both the work of Michael Palmer, a Maine and Key West painter and William Thomson of New England, have works in international and US museums' and university, established/celebrity private collections. Other artists have excelled in their fields, while the select, emerging artists are already making waves.

“And the list goes on. But, really - it comes down to the final piece, regardless of the acknowledgements. The skill, and individual style needs to be there, and that’s what each and every one of our artists demonstrates,” says Bowersock. “We have an embarrassment of riches to share with the community.”

I cant believe i listed so late last night but i did and here are my new offerrings for the month of Jan 2012! also some new work added to my website.

Hope ya'll had a safe yesterday and are recouping nicely. ugh thank goodness for bacon and eggs!!!

Faded Flower (which is my self appointed nickname although i do prefer Jinxie which my tdipt sisters call me)anyway she is part of a series of figures that remind me of those older colonial type dolls but they arent reproductions of them just a bit of inspiration. And since i dont sew all these gals have paper dresses so they are very fragile as an old old doll would be. Keeping it real hee hee.

A New Direction,it sold tho already which is wild as its a bit different then what i offer online as opposed to the gallery stuff. anyway,

This is Humpty Dumpty Nostalgic Folk Art style! and i really thought myself clever to add the graffiti on the wall (Carol Was Here)

A Song In My Heart figure and she is super heavy and super prim but artsy too in a way, not sure where she fits in but I have enjoyed her for a few months and now its time to try and get her adopted.

anyway i've gotta add the new stuff to my site and then finish taking down the Christmas decorations. Then kinda relax the rest of the day, damned be the laundry!

Thank goodness all the hustle and bustle of the holiday is over! Love it but dang it i'm a hermit and like to get back to my simple life. Hope as your reading this your doing well and recouped from all the holiday shennanigans.
Anyway i've added a couple of new figures to my website and so here they are,

Can you believe it, all year long waiting for vacation and dang it sick during it! ugh but still had some great moments. This weekend Dan and I will be working the Mount Dora Crafts Festival for Bowersock Gallery http://www.mountdoracraftfair.com/. so if your around come visit us at the tent and see some wonderful art from the stable of the Bowersock Galleries. Jane Kaufman, Jeanne McCrain are just two other sculpturers whose work will be on display as well including mixed media, jewelery, and paintings.

The Bowersock Boys, Steve and Mike who own and run Bowersock Gallery in Provincetown MA, have opened a new gallery here in Florida! Mount Dora Florida, which is one of the sweetest lil towns in the state. Full of vintage finds, fabulous shops, restaurants, and architecture. And now that Steve and Mike are in town the best art gallery in the state!

The gallery is located at 137 E 4th Ave. Mount Dora, Fl 32757 and it should be up and running right about NOW! If your visiting the Orlando, Daytona Beach or surrounding areas come in and visit Mount Dora and of course Bowersock Gallery.

I saw Steve and Mike setting up and doing last minute touch ups before hanging and placing the art they have for sale. Here are some pics of the gallery in get mode process.

Well actually these boys were made by Karen Pender of Countryfolks Keepsakes and they are adorable! They remind me of my lil fellas Henry and Archie!
Of course Karen makes Bostons for sale but she also has other breeds on her site as well as primitive dolls.

I try to catch Archie smiling and its IMPOSSIBLE but i swear he grins ear to ear and if i could just catch it i'm sure Dentastix would make him a millionaire! In the meantime i'm like that old cartoon character that finds the frog in the cement block!

Henry doesnt grin ear to ear, this beautiful boy does that Tyra Banks thing, he smizes giggle.

Sue From Paint In Tyme Is Awsome!

My online market group of gals is in the mist of our fall swap. Names are drawn and we set a price limit and send out a homemade item and some goodies based on a lil questionairre sent out. Its all in good fun and a great way to get some wonderful artwork. I was grinning ear to ear when i got Sue Nagle From Paint In Tyme. She does really beautiful folk art paintings and i havent had the privilage of getting a painter yet in our swaps. I was thrilled to recieve these wonderful items especially the painted box!
Look how she wrapped it all up so beautiful, she took time to do that

and look at all the lovely goodies. I love the crow mug and will use it for my tea exclusively! AND that lil velvet pumpkin made me shriek when i saw it!! love it!

Opening Show Tonight!

and you know whats neat about the evening, there was a young, beautiful and very talented artist, Alanna Vanacore, who is an amazing painter, anyway she painted a picture that looked like a photo Dan took of me when we were dating, it was so surreal, and she also went to high school with Kipp and i went to high school with her dad!

The Florida Museum for Women Artists presents its second annual Juried Exhibition from Saturday, Sept. 10, until Oct. 23. An opening reception will take place from 5-7 p.m. Friday Sept. 9. Food, drinks, raffle prizes, and live music will be provided. Admission is $10 for nonmembers and free for those with a museum membership.

The second annual Juried Exhibition features 52 women artists chosen by a select group of judges prominent in the art community.

Contemporary works from 52 artists will be displayed throughout the museum for viewing and purchasing. Works include an array of materials and styles, including oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings, photography, clay and wood sculptures, and more.

The Florida Museum for Women Artists opened its doors in November 2009 in order to address the lack of exposure women have historically received in the art community. The second annual Juried Exhibition serves to further celebrate women in the arts, the Florida community in particular.

Here is the piece that was chosen for this show called Fierce Mamas (warrier women series). It was inspired years ago by Kipp my son who would every single day, when he came home from school, would ask, "mom what's for dinner?" so i started making my kichen witches and and these were actually single pieces but i thought how bout making an army of moms as a tribute to us gals who fight the battle everyday of dirt, laundry, pet keeping, laundry,shopping,taxiing and of course after a day of all that and working outside the home making dinner almost every single night.

Bowersock Gallery is having a charity event to help raise money for Pilgrim Bark Park up in their neck of the woods.

Buy a puppy painting and take a chance on Marc Jacobs’ apparel, while sampling treats from Bayside Betsy’s and Truro Vineyards – sounds like the “Bow Wow Bash (at Bowersock)” and the place to be on September 16.

“It’s fine art, fine items and so much more, but most importantly a way to support the Pilgrim Bark Park,” says Steve Bowersock, Bowersock Gallery co owner. “There’s a lot of Provincetown/Cape business coming together to help one of our own. That pretty much says town party.”

For it’s part the Bowersock Gallery has asked its national and regionally renowned artists to submit small works of dogs, or that reference dogs for this special occasion. It will also open its latest exhibit “Fall at Bowersock,” a salon style show featuring the entire stable. Bowersock will donate 10-percent from all evening sales to the town’s dog park.

In addition 40 local businesses will pitch in to make the event’s silent auction a success.

Among the items up for bid: Louis Vuitton luggage; Marc Jacobs’ attire direct from the runway, and a Cape Air commuter book, (valued at $999). There are gift certificate for numerous eateries including The Red Inn Restaurant, Jimmy’s Hideaway and Central House Bar and Grill. The broad selection of certificate include ones for Art’s Dune Tour, numerous flowers shops, cafes, animal services, grocery stories, bakery’s and liquor stores.

The event will be catered by Provincetown’s Bayside Betsy’s, and wine will be provided by Truro Vineyards.

“This is the second time Bowersock, along with many of the participating businesses, have put together an event to support a local nonprofit. Last event was an outstanding night of entertainment, which raised over $6000 for P-town’s The Soup Kitchen,” says co owner Michael Senger. “This is not an event to be missed. Not only is it one of the season’s highlights, but it supports a project with great community value.”

so please if your able support your local or any charity you can. I know the Gallery will raise money and have fun doing so.

A Weekend at Slotin Folk Fest 2011

Phew! I am still dog tired! Dan and I went to Slotin Folk Fest this fri sat and left yesterday. We saw interesting art and people for sure. It is such an eclectric group of artisans and their work.
I'd like to add since i just didnt have the courage to ask for pics this year from Winder Binder Gallery or Joel Pinkerton so google them and see some great stuff.
But i did get some photos and thought i'd share a few of them.

at Tallulah Falls before heading in. The view is beautiful but i'm terrified of heights.

In the parking lot a huge metal sculpture. Someone is gonna have fun hauling that home.

Meeting Cher Shaffer, she is such a sweetheart and i was familiar with her paintings on sheet music and thrilled to see her paintings they are as wonderful as she is. You can see more of her work at Panorama Folk Art.

And here is Tommy Lawless! He and Mitch Huett own Panorama Folk Art and they are so much fun! Mitch couldnt make it this year but Tommy held down the fort. You can see their work at Panorama Folk Art too but here you can see some of Tommy's memory jugs and Mitch's misfits. Mitch is a fantastic painter as well and Tommy's work is sculpture, paintings, assemblege, mixed media, most reflecting his wicked sense of humor.

Looking for Eric Legge and see his hat and his lunch but no Eric!

Here is Big White Dog Inc and Aaron Hequembourg really makes the most amazing wood burning portrait pieces. He also has wonderful antique pieces amoung his art which shows how great they'd look in a home full of primitives or antiques.

John Fesken does some downright spooky stuff. His art is playful and spooky at the same time. But it is also some of the most original art out there. He has pieces you look thru with pieces that move. He does beautiful paintings that seem like dreams or nightmares. I can tell ya this picture does his work no justice. Seriously Disney needs this fella!

Ok here is Slotin Folk Art nirvana! William Skrips, I mean the things he makes are just so clever,when we get there we always hope he is there to see what wonderful things he brings.

It's Been So Crazy Over Here!

I haven't had a moment to just sit and update my site or blog. Actually had some computer problems but thanks to Jan at Big Brown Dog Primitives/Graphics all is well for now. Ok so those problems aside i'm just going to post some pics from a bit,
here are pics from Mt.Dora and it was so dead!!!!! I ended up purchasing a few lil things but my "big" piece was a vintage turkey transfer ware platter. Thats my sis, my mom Dan and me

Also havent posted pics of the boys and here they are. Henry wasnt ready for his pic and turned away (as usual) giggle I keep trying to get a pic of Archie smiling and you should of seen all the pics i had to delete in trying. enjoy the rascals!

And the very main reason so busy over heya is Kipp has returned from Ireland. I cant believe its been almost a year it doesnt seem that long ago. Anyway here are the dogs loving him giggle and man do they adore him. Its like i've left the building, cept when its breakfast time. Lots for Kipp to do, even just getting his room back in order for him (i had been using it for storage from all the stuff i need to put in a yard sale) and even figuring out groceries. Man can my boys EAT! all of them so work work work for me. But its normal again and i dont feel that tinge of fear of having him a foreign country, even tho Ireland is one of the safest places on the plant. But now he's home and all is normal. well........

And finally this..... Dan and i were going to yard sales this past saturday and saw the heat was so danged bad even the sign neede help to stay up!

Artifacts Galley has it Grand Opening!

Sharon and Rob Roos celebrated the official grand opening last Friday of Artifacts Gallery in Erueka Springs Arkansas. It is a really unique place just in set up alone. It's not your typical square box type gallery and they show and sell a wide variety of art.

Last friday i understand it got really really busy but there were a few pics of the begining of the evening and thought i'd share them with you.

Eat At Gerry's In Dublin!

We have been back a few days now from Dublin and I think our systems are back in USA time completely. It was so good to see Kipp! He was a great guide and there were so many beautiful areas around Dublin. Mostly tho the city was like a cross between NYC and Asheville. The country was breath taking but it was way to cold when the wind blew. Here are some photos of Kipp, Dan and myself enjoying the pubs, and sites.

Our room was really sweet and spacious.

a phone in the bathroom and the shower was different as the floor tilted a bit for the water to run down to the drain.

Public transportation is wonderful over there!

of course have to add a pic of sheep and i really am the worst photographer here is the best one.

The food over there was really expensive and we were really lucky to find this lil place around the corner a bit from our hotel. Gerry's is so good and they give you ridiculously huge portions for around $6.50 euros. Home cooked styled food and Gerry the owner is so personable and fun. I recommend this place for breakfast lunch and dinner. the fried cod is so tasty! the breakfast sausages are to die for.

Random pics of downtown Dublin area

Lots of really cool pubs and here are some random pics of us and one of Miklos a friend of Kipp's from Hungary.

Dublin had so many people from all over the world. It was crowded and full of young people. There were more Asian and Middle Eastern restaurants than I have ever seen, and I think i only saw 2 Irish restaurants. I never got a chance to try some "real" curry but we ate at this place called The Cave (French and Italian) and it was one of the best meals all 3 of us ever had.

We rented a car for one day and Lord I am surprised we survived! The driving is so strange, not just because we are used to a different side of the raod but the roads didnt seem as wide, street signs are almost non existant, and lots of one ways and pedestrian streets. With all the differences I never saw an accident scene like around here (I4) (95).
The people were very nice and we really enjoyed our stay and visit with Kipp.
Oh and the Queen was landing as we were leaving, would of loved to have seen her.

Sunday Fun at Live Oak Stud Farm

Dan and I went to Live Oak Stud Farms in Ocala, Fl this past sunday for and enjoyed some special competition and to raise a bit of $ for the Red Cross. This is what my mom in law is getting for Easter!

She's Feeling Better!!!!!

Well just got an update from my friend, Peanut and her lil Hannah seems to be feeling better. She is not out of the woods yet but she is a long way from where she was and i know how much she means to her mama and hoping she continues to get back to her old self!

I wasnt sure what to do about this posting, it seems Hannah took a turn for the worse and crossed the rainbow bridge today 2/22/11. My heart goes out to Peanut, her husband and their other furbabies. I am praying for their tender hearts to have strength and their pain is eased in knowing they gave Hannah the most wonderful 10 plus years any dog could have.

Sat morning at Images Art Festival

Images Art Festival in New Smynra Beach Fl. is a wonderful outting and especially today as the weather was just perfect and the sea air so crisp.
i didnt take pics of the artists there as most do not like their work photographed w/o their permission but Dan took(with her permission) Trish Thompson and me admiring some of her new work. Trish is a popular Florida artist and her work is valued and collected by many all over the country.

I met her formally through my friend, who was also set up there,

Lots of dogs there so that was really nice to see and all well behaved. No way i could of taken our Boston boys but i really missed them seeing all the cuties there here are some pics of that and the farmers market next to the art show.

A Truly Best Day Ever!

Oh look at the face on Dan! We are letting the boys out one last time before we head out to Mt. Dora for the Renningers Antique Extravaganza. It is one of our favorite things, hunting for treasures for the house and for our folk art.

It is an excrutiating hour or so drive and once there

my heart starts to race and i envision all the wonderful things to see! Look at all the cars!

Geeze I'm still recovering from Christmas in Brrrradford Pa. It was freezing and poor Henry and Archie, but we did have winter coats for them. Here are some pics of the cold and the fur boys. Dan had the wonderful job of being dog walker but the boys figured it out quickly to do thier things asap giggle Archie lost his coat running to get in the house and he reminded me of the cowardly lion in the scene from The Wizard of Oz when he ran from Oz, Archie literally jumped the entire stairs to get to the back door.

Henry and Archie did get comfy THank God. As it is very stressful for me anyway to be a visitor in someone's home and also to have two dogs even tho they are agreeable to them.

Kipp is in Ireland and we did mangage to skype him and i'm adding this as i found the pics of him

And to stay sane and comfy it seems like i had a much needed drink in my hand the entire time!

Oh I forgot to mention Dan's parents have a shrine in their basement to the Buffalo Bills football team, they even decorated a tree down there in homage to them.

Oh Lord the party (of one) is starting!

Girls gone wild!!! What else can ya do when its under 10 degrees outside and you know the Lutefisk or Lutefish is a coming! btw the music was Christmas stuff! Nothing can keep us girls down!

Another day another cocktail! Notice my fat stomache at this point. Its called the Bradford Bloat and its from living like Elvis Presley's last years in only 4 days!

Again just two ladies visiting giggle. um Looks like Janet couldnt refuse the scarf, which by the way some how became well see if the pics tell the story. I told my nephew who quietly was filming this episode, this better not end up anywhere!

Next is the salt pork, which Dan is carving. It has been salted for i think around 21 days and you take the brine and dip this delicious homemade rye bread in it.

Aaaaaahhhhh yes to the fragrent and eye watering Lutefike or Lutefish. Gobble gobble Carley!

dont hog it all make sure Keegan has plenty!

Keegan is so enjoying the wonderful aroma of fish cured in lye!

I do so enjoy seeing the children enjoy all the holiday has to bring giggle

Actually i have acquired some immunity to lutefiske and can eat a small spoonful of it.
What i have learned in all my years is that you just have to enjoy the small joys in life and try to find the humor in everythng and if ya cant have a vodka martini!

Hoping your Thanksgiving is as wonderful as it can be and wishing the best for you and happiness in something every day!

I know difficult times have come upon so many of us, including my own family, be it health issues, family dynamics, financial and a host of other problems that all of us face at one time or another. Life has its ups and downs and sometimes it just smacks us in the face with things we are unprepared for.

A family member is fighting a good battle right now with her health and there are momemts I am paralized with sorrow. Yet there are things that are good that happen throughout the day and i am grateful for them. I am thankful for everything my family has formed me to be, and the experiences I have had with them. I am so thankful for all the support and love they have given me throughout the years. No matter what happens, what the future brings I am so thankful I was born to my parents.

I am thankful to by the grace of God been born in this great country.
To have a wonderful family and friends, a place to live, and to be blessed to have the best job for me ever.

I am hoping that you find joy and happiness in your life and that this Thanksgiving you can enjoy all this is good in your life.

Hey, I participated in a online survey called the "Glyph Project". It's by an artist (Margaret Schnebly Hodge) who's trying to find out what meanings people give to specific things like lines, textures, colors and shapes. The answers you provide give a kind of “physicality” to current cultural belief systems. She will read responses and see how / if the meanings have changed compared to our ancestors, how individuals in our culturally blended America see things as compared to earlier America, and how/if our responses influence her personal belief system and existing art work. Holidazzle was a Treat!

Yesterday was the Holidazzle Christmas show put on by our local museum. They invited 20 local artists to set up a for a Christmas show for members.
I didnt bring my camera but Tee Thompson of Hot Metal Mama did and am waiting for pics from her. Then you'll be able to see pics of her outstanding work(check this outwww.gainesville.com/article/20101118/articles/101119370) and some other wonderful pieces from that ladies there.

Anyway I got all these pics sent to me from the show and I really loved them because just randomly I was setting up and a photo was taken of that and a lil figure was showing that i hadnt set out yet and wasnt going to til later that evening.

But the coolest thing was here is a pic of a sweet lady who bought that particular lil figure, I guess she's showing it to someone at her table (lunch was served)

And here she's smiling! What a great gift this pic was. She had unwrapped it and was looking at it and smiling. My day and night has totally been made. What a really nice gesture sending that my way!

What a Week! What a Day!

After a very bad week for my family, this day has been so wonderful! The sun is shining and the weather is fantastic and we are going to a neighborhood party tonight. A pan of my chicken is simmering in the oven and I just uploaded some pics to share of the 72 mile yard sale we went to this am, although we didnt do the entire thing we were gone for 3 hrs! In our rush to the next sale we left behind an antique doll bed ($3.00) ha ha ha, well it would of hurt more if I didnt get a McCoy white tulip water pitcher for $2.50 or some vintage canning jars for a buck and a few other goodies for next to nothing plus it was just so much fun the thrill of the hunt and to be outside on such a glorious day! Hope you enjoy the pics that turned out as there werent very many :)

My Heart is Broken

Yesterday morning my mom came with Dan and I to take Kipp to Orlando International Airport to send him off to Ireland. I havent been able to stop my crying outbursts and even lost it at the grocery store this am(the Jim Croce song operator came on). It was too difficult to see all the things i'd buy for him. Right now I'm doing laundry and some of his clothes are there. I'll fold them and put them in his room and probably loose it again.
Kipp is my only child and has been a wonderful son. I knew this day was coming and there were times when i thought this day wouldnt come soon enough. I regret those thoughts as i would welcome the wet towels on the bed or the dried cheese stuck on the pots or all the very small things that sometimes annoy us our kids/adult kids do. I miss him so much my heart is so broken i cannot even think clearly. Whenever someone talks to me i just start crying and rambling. But I am extremely proud of him. He is brave to go on his own but this is a son whose arm was broken in a high school soccer game and he continued playing. He always surprises us :).
here are some pics of the thurs. before he left(with my mom and sister) and sat am on the way to the airport and at the airport. Oh and our dog Henry has been so depressed, Kipp took a pic of him actually in one of his suitcases and when we were leaving sat am he kept trying to sit on Dan's fee. Henry loves Kipp so much too poor Archie Henry wont let him in Kipp's room.
The pic is on Kipp's phone and i wish i had it now to share.

Letting go is so difficult but time is the great healer. I miss him so very very much,all those years together as a lil family and he must go on a become the man we want him to be and all he can be. It just hurts so much to let him go.

Happy First Day of Fall!

Well just finished a blog on the sweet box I received from a dear friend and should of mentioned the crows in the window were made by Patty of Dogpatch Primitives and Starla of Briar Rabbit Primitives(with the strawberry). I wish the pic would of been clearer!

With that being said a new wonderful creation arrived today, from TDIPT artist, Karen(Peanut) of Countryfolk Keepsakes. Its a lovely pink flamingo which is wonderful with my vintage Florida collection. Pretty cool huh?! check out her website to see her wonderful birds and other goodies she makes. I have a wonderful Boston Terrier figure from her that is too sweet!

Totally biased but the work from the gals from TDIPT is addicting!

Well heck Kindness Does Matter!

Everyday is special even when it really stinks and believe me some days in my life have been horrendously rotton as well as spectacularly phenominal.
Anyway recently i have received a happy fall day package from a dear friend, which suspiciously arrived this week.

This super cute ornie is hanging in my living room and everytime i walk in there i think of my dear friend who took the time to make him and send him my way.

I say that as I dont really celebrate my birthday anymore(we do go out to Martins for dinner around that time tho) as every day i have is a special day. No i dont have cake or presents daily I just am happy to see my family my dogs have a good meal or a really good sleep and do what i love to do for a living even if its a not a lavish one.

I also feel the same about Mother's day too. giggle.

Henry and Archie!

God I love these fellas! They each have such wonderful and different personalities. Henry is quiet and loving almost and dare I say cat like, Archie is mischevious and actually smiles (that is the money shot!)and Archie is very attached to Henry, Henry could probably do without lil Archie but we couldnt.

Slotin Folk Fest 2010 was Beautiful and Brilliant

What a “beautiful and brilliant” weekend! Slotin Folk Fest 2010!!!! Dan me and our friend Tee Thompson (Hot Metal Mama) went to see some INTERESTING and finally some ORIGINAL artwork and people. After driving almost 8 hrs we just had enough energy to do a quick run thru and here are the pics. It takes a couple of days to see everything but we just couldnt wait to be amazed.

Ok Lord Lord Lord!!! the great and amazing William Scrips!, www.wmskrips.com, one of the very best artisans out there. I don’t have a lot of great pics (whats new) but you can see and drool over his work if you check out his site. Trust me one look and you’ll be a fan too! This guy should all over every folk art musuem. Omg I hate this pic of myself, i just look like a gushing fool but its the only one good enough to post.

And here is Michael Wimmer amoungst his customers and dang it again my photography skills lack so much but you can google him and he is at Winder Binder Gallery. He is one of the best as well! His clocks/work are so incredibley colorful fanciful dark and just so orginial! Original being the key word but like Scrips its the colors and placement that make the work more than "assembledge"

Dan and Tee enjoying some German beer on sat after a day of enjoying all kinds of art.

A private joke amoungst friends and gnomes. Um Tee and I and our baked good offerings to Greg and Karen Mack. They own Mike’s Art Truck and sat. night they always have some artists over for pizza beer and stuff. They are very nuturing of their friends and know so many people. Thank you Karen and Greg for your gracious hospitality as always.

Here are some of the pics that turned out ok of that evening. We met some interesting (to say the least!) people. Butch Anthony(he was on American Pickers and sold them a huge Piggly Wiggley head,he's in overalls), Robert Seven (well that is what he was called that night but I think he has a couple of other names),Kim and James Dean, and one of my very favorites , Eric Legge. I know I’m leaving some people out and I do apologize but I cannot remember your names and I just wanted to hurry up and get my blog out there.

Um Mr. Seven (sitting) was wearing a cumberbund and had some feathers in his hat hee hee but he had a 1/2 gallon jug of "tea" he carried around with him. I hear he lives in a magical house. Man to be a fly in that wall. He is the owner of the art car ambulance.

Eric Legge is the coolest fella on the planet hands down. He is soft spoken, completely ageless and the words that come out of his mouth just make me smile. He called Kim Dean’s work “Beautiful and Brilliant” but I think that also describes Eric. Now he is the real deal.

Back From A Wonderful Vacation!

What a wonderful time we had in Bryson City, NC this past week. Pics will follow write up as I'm having trouble with them showing up all kind of crazily and messing up the wording.

Henry has his spot on Dan's lap. Archie is with me and poor thing has to be mediacated as he gets so nervous and cannot stop panting and shaking. But he looks so pitiful with his glassy and squinted eyes.

First stop was at Tallulah Falls in GA. The overlook is so steep and very intimidating. I'm not leaving Dan's site here! The shop there has the cutest items, very old fashioned candies, replications of old tin toys, tons of Burt's Bees products and vintage inspired house hold items. I always purchase a table cloth everytime we visit.

Next stop Clayton GA, to The Main Street Gallery, to drop off some of my work. The absolute coolest thing happened while we were there! A lady bought a figure while we were in the gallery, what are the odds!!!!????!!!! I was really nervous too.

Here are some random pics as we traveled on to our cabin and a pic of the fireplace there. It is a really sweet cabin! (Marge's Place Angel's Cabins)

We took excursions to many towns and we ate at LuLu's in Slyva which I believe was written up in Southern Living Magazine. Dan's food was very good.

Onward to Asheville! So many neat shops and eateries! My favorite is the old WoolWorths which is converted to a 2 level art gallery BUT they kept the vintage soda shop area.

The Dublin Hiking Club!

Our final night at the Fryemont Inn circa 1923 and they still have the old fashioned locks on the doors no credit card styled keys! breakfast and dinner are included and believe me they have stayed in 1923. LOVE IT!!!! We always eat there our last day whenever we stay in Bryson.

Its really hard to take pics when on vacation and I wish I would of taken more to show how serene and comforting Bryson City is and if you just want to get away from it all and really get away this is a wonderful place to go.

Ok this place is near and dear to me for a couple of reasons, Jerry, Denny, Brian and great people there, plus all the fantastic stuff you can find there.

When Dan and I moved here (back home for me) from Maryland many many years ago, we started up a lil antique business at a now defunct mall, anyway we had the funky, the fifties, the atomic and boy were we kinda looked on as the rookies (we were but still), those items were really desirable up there but the stuff we loved was not very mainstream here and the "real" antiques you know the dark, victorian, sideboards, glassware, pieces snubbed thier noses at the aqua and orange shagness!
Jerry had the coolest funkiest and yes a velvet Elvis painting (yech) items around. It was as if Dan and I had gone to mid centry modern heaven. He was so kind to us and we had found someone who understood the love of all things kitsch. But serioulsy he had it way over on us and he taught us so much and he also showed everyone who met him, how wonderful and fun your surroundings can be. Sadly Jerry passed away a couple of years ago from cancer but man did he have a great and artistic life. Dan and I still think of him every sat. on our excursions.

Ok I've rambled but he used to own this business with Denny. Denny has left the business but he is there here and there. :)

Brian now owns the business and its just a natural progression as Jerry took Brian under his wing and showed him "the light" giggle. Brian loves the funky,unusual, fun also vintage florida and hawaiian stuff. He has the passion from his mentor and friend. Brian has a great sense of style and fun.

Dan and I love to browse thru the shop and it is alot bigger than it appears from the street. It is torture but we can usually find something that we desperately need. Of course now we are looking for primitive pieces but there is still room for old florida and holdiay decor.

Here are some pics of what type of things you can find there but really there is always a changing almost weekly of new furniture and stuff. Also there are some interesting collections of old mermaids, highwaymen paintings, pottery of all eras and styles,and jewelery.

First a HUGE relief, Kipp passed his final oral exam and portfolio project!!! AND with an A!!! So that is out of the way and now he is a college graduate and ready to fly off into the world.

Thought this picture of a butterfly drying his wings on one of our garden flowers was so appropriate for my son. Anyway just super proud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mainland Bucs 1980 30th Reunion

The Reunion celebration is still going on, however I only partook in the cocktail party this past fri the 25th and I am so mad that these are the only pics that turned out!!! The fact is the others are gone and I know this is weird but its like my camera ate them! Maybe I took too many as already had 46 in there from my son's school project. Don't know and as you can see I just sat down to load em up and add to my blog and am stupified. Wouldn't have in any other way has become one of my fav sayings right now. Cause with Kipp's 2 final exams this tues, and a huge show in August, my head is spinning and i'm messing lots of stuff up. Spaz forever!

ok now I'm smiling thinking about seeing my 2 best buds from school. Lori Leatherwood Dopsloff and Suzie Boudreau Cornwall. I've known them since we were all 12. Lori is the other gal I was introduced with the first day of 7th grade as the new girls by the admin. (mentioned in a previous blog)

Anyway I only went to have fun with these gals as never kept in touch with anyone and mostly hung out with my boyfriend at the time and/or Lori and Suzie. But ended up enjoying seeing lots of schoolmates and had a nice time. Glad I went.

so they came over here first for a drink and nibbles before heading off. Suzie's husband Tim went and Dan was grateful for that! No picks of them showed up!!!!!

Me,Lori and Suzie Lindsey! Lindsey was a huge part of my high school years.She looks fantastic! She was a trooper and along with Suzie Boudreau one of the funniest gals around! Thanks Suzie and hope you visit me when your in town. She now lives in CA. with an adorable lil boy.

Now getting annoyed as no pic with Valenthia Van Meter, yes even the name is one of a superstar. She is still as gorgeous as she always was. She is one of those people that just have it, whatever it is and should of been famous for something.

At least these couple of pics came thru as I truly love Lori and Suzie like family and they stuck with me through all the highs (literally hee hee just kidding)and lows of tramatic youth, love, mean girls, first jobs, first cars, bathing suits (very tramatic), skipping school, sneaking into clubs,and things that cannot be mentioned even under torture!

We still keep in touch Lori is in Naples and Suzie here in town. And by the way a big hello to Gordon and man did I miss not seeing Bonchi the other night!
The next one i'll head to if still around would be the 50th but this left me with really good memories and maybe i'll just leave it at that.

Pam from GoldiLoo Woodworks,http://goldieloowoodworksshop.blogspot.com/ has this really cute Buy American sign listed on ebay right now, she doesnt have it as her Blue Ribbon Launch piece but still I think this is such a cute piece of her's. Her game boards are really something else and have a wonderful aged look.

I love this lil angel baby made by Audrey of Bay Ray's Child http://b-r-child.blogspot.com/ This is her first paper clay doll and she is fantastic! Audrey is such an all around artist. everything she does is pretty darn great, whether her gardening or decorating (seriously check out her blog to see her house!)or sewing heck or even her dog paintings (I have one she made of Henry!)she puts a sweet personality in them.

Ok here's the other piece I love thats being offered, its by Patty from Dogpatch Primitives http://dogpatchprimitives.blogspot.com/ those kids are adorable and the pants on the lil boy well something about them just did it for me. too cute! love the ice cream bars too. Patty knows I'm a huge huge fan and you can see why. I dont know something about the way she ages her work, its not just "dirtied up" it meticuously aged here and there and her colors are faded in that old comforting way.

Nostalgic Folk Art June Offerring on The Merc

This is Sunny Slope Slide, a place where wild things play! I have to thank my hubs Dan for constructing this slide for me! He puts up with my mania and knows exactly what works with my figures. I guess being together for so long (23 years on the 6th of this month) ya kinda mesh. Most definitely tho he will be collaberating more and more with me on some bigger pieces to come. Anyway here is my Dan.

And here is my other offerring this month. She is a Sea Monkey Queen! How nostalgic is that? Remember the back of your comic books, and how they looked like such a happy family? I actually ordered some and remember the bitter disapointment when a packet of powder came (freeze dried microscopic sea fleas or something). I expected a family alive ( the mind of innocent wonderment)with clothes and crowns, heck I even expected a sea monkey pet dog. Yikes! So here is my version a Sea Monkey a queen and very faboooooosh! (in my opinion giggle)

A Great Weekend!

Running behind in this blog but have been so danged busy!!! Anyway for Mother's Day, which has turned into a Mother's Weekend (heehee), Sat. we took my mom out for dinner at Martins which is across from the ocean and the shrimp there is KILLER! Its one of mom's and my favorite places to eat and the view is so old Fl to me. Then on Sunday my boys made my favorite, grilled lamb chops. Here's Kipp working the grill. And yes the gas grill is in the background but I like the charcoal flavor not available in a gas grill. Heck I think that grill is probably all rusted out and probably needs a push to the curb.

Ok have to show pics of the Boston babies and notice they are not together. Henry still has problems with Archie but Archie is an imp and could get on St. Francis Asis last nerve. But Lord that face gets him off every time! giggle

The weather was wonderful and the company the best! The spirits were flowing the food was delicious and look at the view. I love love love my little sitting space and love to sit there with a drink and nibbles.
I mean it really takes me away from any stress that may be in my life and brings out my faith in God. Nature no matter how small a spot can do that.

We added corn and tomatoes this year and think we will continue to expand the edible part. Can't wait to fry some green tomatoes!

The end of the day and all the celebrating done here are the Bostons on each end of the couch.

Henry doesn't look like he's having a sound sleep giggle probably wondering when Archie will pounce!!

And hauney thats not the half of it!!! Kipp is home and yesterday was an emotional day. Saying good bye to a wonderful 4 years with good friends and a pretty great life sequestered in a frat house. Now comes the real world for him. He must do his internship do an oral and written on it and have passed all his exams from last week and if all is good he can walk in Dec.
Its good to have him home but I know his heart is heavy as no time will ever be like this for him again. He knows this. I told him he will have other good experiences and will mature and find different things that bring him just as much joy and comardarie. Tomorrow can always be better and alot of that has to do with your heart and attitude. Plus we live pretty darn close to the beach so those boys will be here off and on.
Thank goodness he starts work tomorrow to keep him busy. We go shopping today for some appropriate clothes and there will a massive eye rolling competition. While he's sleeping I'm warming up those muscles and practicing my mantra, "are you kidding me" "heck no" and "I'm not paying that much for those ugly shoes" and of course the one thing I say most of all when he's home, "you just ate, here's my last bit of $"

Hahahaha look at Henry in these pics he has lost his mind!!! Archie being the puppy got the heck outta dodge and is in his crate all confused by all the STUFF all over. Not Henry man he is sniffing and if a dog can smile Henry is grinning ear to ear. He is loving that dirty clothes mixed with clean mixed with bedding that probably hadnt been washed in a month or so. Its like a fine cigar to him.

So anyway life goes on and memories are made. Its good to have him home and I know this won't last and he'll be on his own for good in no time at all and that will really be bittersweet but it is the goal of parents right?. Sleep sweet son cause this morn. at 10am I'm waking you up to start your busy day.
