Nostalgic Folk Art was born in 2004. I came up with Nostalgic Folk Art name for my paper mache figures because I love the older things that remind me of my childhood and of innocent times. They are figures of folks both childish and impish and I love vintage folk art so putting nostalgic with folk art was/is a perfect and fitting name for my lil figures and business.

My blog is just to get a more personal view of Nostalgic Folk Art what inspires me. Thank you for taking the time to visit!

And when your done visiting here, I'd love for you to check out my work on my etsy shop, www.etsy.com/shop/NostalgicFolkArt

"Kipp's Home"

And hauney thats not the half of it!!! Kipp is home and yesterday was an emotional day. Saying good bye to a wonderful 4 years with good friends and a pretty great life sequestered in a frat house. Now comes the real world for him. He must do his internship do an oral and written on it and have passed all his exams from last week and if all is good he can walk in Dec.
Its good to have him home but I know his heart is heavy as no time will ever be like this for him again. He knows this. I told him he will have other good experiences and will mature and find different things that bring him just as much joy and comardarie. Tomorrow can always be better and alot of that has to do with your heart and attitude. Plus we live pretty darn close to the beach so those boys will be here off and on.
Thank goodness he starts work tomorrow to keep him busy. We go shopping today for some appropriate clothes and there will a massive eye rolling competition. While he's sleeping I'm warming up those muscles and practicing my mantra, "are you kidding me" "heck no" and "I'm not paying that much for those ugly shoes" and of course the one thing I say most of all when he's home, "you just ate, here's my last bit of $"

Hahahaha look at Henry in these pics he has lost his mind!!! Archie being the puppy got the heck outta dodge and is in his crate all confused by all the STUFF all over. Not Henry man he is sniffing and if a dog can smile Henry is grinning ear to ear. He is loving that dirty clothes mixed with clean mixed with bedding that probably hadnt been washed in a month or so. Its like a fine cigar to him.

So anyway life goes on and memories are made. Its good to have him home and I know this won't last and he'll be on his own for good in no time at all and that will really be bittersweet but it is the goal of parents right?. Sleep sweet son cause this morn. at 10am I'm waking you up to start your busy day.

High School Reunion ugh!

I saw a dear old friend of mine (Lori) last sat. at her aunt's 80th birthday party and of course our high school reunion came up, its this June or July. Went to the 10th and it was ok but not enough time for me had passed and my awkwardness (good word for it) was in high gear.
It is now our 30th reunion and for some reason I'm feeling a bit nostalgic and a tad curious.
Previously I had seen a gal who graduated a year before me, while ordering at a bakery in town, and she was all amped about her reunion and was kinda admonishing me for not wanting to go to mine. I respectfully and repeatedly told her I wasn't a popular kid and reunions were for them and maybe for the kid who felt the need to show out not the awkward girl who blended in the crowd. Thankfully our order was up and I could get the heck out of there!
Ok let me back track to my dear friend Lori, we met in the 7th grade. We were both new to the school and area. Our first day at school we were paraded around together, introduced and shown the school and our classes. Although she was very nice to me, in the 7th grade my 12 year old figure was more like a 7 year old and hers was already um well formed :) Plus she had the face of a goddess, a combination of a young Goldie Hawn and Brooke Sheilds. Me, geeze I looked like the uglier twin of Kristie McNichol. Life can really stink sometimes and for a very immature and awkward 12yr old this was pretty stinky! But even tho everyone wanted to be her friend she found time for me, plus she lived the next street over (hee hee). Anyway back to the reunion.
She wanted me to go and hang out and told me to check out our (giggle) official high school reunion website. I did and whoaaa!!! Never knew this was there and even added myself to the mix even getting some emails from a couple of gals from back in the day. That was sweet and lovely.
So the 2 gals I hung with the most are going to the reunion and I decided to go to the cocktail thingie and not the dinner. Its a good compromise.

My son checking into his college dorm. He comes home this thurs! It wasn't that long ago ...... How time flies!

F is Not for Fish

at least in this case!

Meet the Fabulous Tatianna, such a demure young bird and so sweetly beautiful! Work it girl

Now meet Raveshing Raven with her steely stare and beauty almost unearthly. She loves to give good face!

side to side work it Raven!

Behind the scenes the girls get ready who will win this walk off

Raven hold your tongue, Tatianna can hold her own and you both are beautiful birds and I am definitely jealous of your boogie!

With apologies to RuPaul these birds were inspired by by his gals and my favs this season on his show. Although Pandora is up on my list and last years Shannel(hail to the Queen!) and Nina are all stand outs and they have inspired me to make more.
These birds are on their way to Main Street Gallery in Clayton Ga they are for sale and more of my over dressed/done chickens/birds will be heading that way. They are embellished with vintage items including broken pieces of jewelery, sequins, glitter, rusty wire all glued on vintage blocks.
Hope you enjoyed this silly little bit of paper fun.

Taking A Time Out!

Ok but first a pic of the boys at play in the studio, notice the shoe in the upper corner. Archie is the culprit. He steals my shoes whenever I leave the house and the sneaky beast hides them in Henry's crate where he apparantely enjoys them and maybe he thinks Henry will get the blame. giggle always something with the new kid.

Anyway I just have been so darned busy I can hardly breathe!!! So I decided to take a time out and as the saying goes, "stop and smell the flowers". I had a wonderful weekend and took some pics of the beautiful flowers around. With the blessings of good weather and beautiful birds and flowers around and things generally going good, my heart just soars and makes me so thankful. I know others are sufferring and I get my life's share of it too, but for now it is not my time for that and I am grateful.

Little surprises are everywhere in my memory garden. On my fence we put up some folk art signs and old wall pockets and odds and ends.

This is such a joy to water (see the hose I lazily left there), to see the water fall from one bucket to the other. I wish the wild flowers were in bloom but look at the geranium!

Look at my rose bush! The other one on the other side of the doors just up and died?

Its really nice to sit out there on sunny days and watch the lil Bostons chase each other into exhaustion!

Here are some flowers in the front of the house, under the window boxes.

The entrance of my home has one of my very first Nostalgic Folk Art figures and Jan Brown's (Big Brown Dog Primitives)art work of 2 Bostons, which represent Henry and Archie.
So thanks for visiting my blog and letting me share my pics and hopefully you'll have the best day today!!!

Update on The Boston Babies

Here are my boys, Henry and Archie at play usually its in the Nostalgic Folk Art studio which makes it hard to work when they are so funny to watch, but they are all over the place today. Archie the puppy just goes and goes and poor Henry is never allowed to have a toy to himself. Which is so weird as he definitely whoops his butt when they rough house. Well he's never rough with him even though wouldnt blame him now and then, but he definitely can put him in his place. As you can see (well barely from the pic)Archie is a toy hoarder, he must have all the balls and refuses to share with Henry.

A picture of my darling Henry. He's so danged cute!

Now here's Archie's mug shots giggle, he is so funny and such a pest and a great snuggler!

Lil Archie enjoying the spoils of war! (Henry always lets him win)

These two fellas are such a joy in our house and I'm so in love with this breed. Can ya tell? :)

My First Written Review/Kinda like your first dollar, I treasure this dearly

"Carol Roll is a relative new-comer, creating folk art for four years, now. Her paper mache figures reflect significant talent. At first glance, her angels, people, mermaids, and animals may appear cute and dear. At closer look, they are sophisticated, with detailed, expressive faces, each unique. Roll's work is anything but mass produced. It's the real deal. "
